Aube – Spindrift

This week we celebrate the life and work of Akifumi Nakajima aka Aube. We dive headfirst into “Spindrift”, the first release on his own G.R.O.S.S label. We explore his unique sound and visual design, discuss his passion for the noise underground, and read a few words from some artists that worked directly with him. There will never be enough words to truly describe his sound and his impact, but we will always have his noise. Listen to Aube.

Hijokaidan – King of Noise

We got excited and recorded another episode this week. It’s our first repeat artist as we discuss the seminal “King of Noise” album by Hijokaidan, which was recently reissued by Fantastique. Things get piercing and sharp as we celebrate this record. We also discuss the possibility of cooking a pizza on Greh’s speakers using the sounds Hijokaidan. We know who’s noise kingdom we’d want to be serfs in.

BONUS: GRIM – Amaterasu 7″

Raw yet polished Japanese industrial noise from Jun Konagaya back in 1985, this 7″ is the total package. The three of us saw GRIM last year and discuss the show a bit as well. You can find this episode and more bonus content by supporting the podcast via our Patreon at http://patreon.com/noisextra/

MSBR – Metal Stricken Terror Action

This week head back to Japan and back to the ’90s to discuss one of the all time greats, MSBR. We listen to 1995’s “Metal Stricken Terror Action” on Banned Production and our minds are blown. We cover the late Koji Tano’s legacy and importance to the world of noise, read from an interview Greh did with Koji in 1999, and dissect the beauty of MSBR’s special packaging. Steady yourself for the electro suplex of MSBR.

Hijokaidan – Ferocity of Practical Life

One last duo session to settle into the new mode, Greh and Mike been preparing for the Hospital fest in LA and since Junko is performing solo we figured we’d pop on 1996’s “Ferocity of Practical Life” 10″ by noise legends Hijokaidan, one of the longest running acts around. All-star lineup this time around, with classics Jojo and Junko Hiroshige, Toshiji Mikawa and Fumio Kosakai (Incapacitants) and Masami Akita! NOISE!
